Limehouse Produce Becomes Green Plus Certified by the Institute of Sustainable Development 1.25.16
Limehouse Produce became Green Plus Certified by the Institute of Sustainable Development, a nationally recognized, third party green business certification that indicates a company’s dedication to sustainable practices. The certification requires companies to take an online assessment of their efforts across three categories—People, Planet, and Performance. This certification validates Limehouse’s commitment to their environmental, social and business practices.
Some of the sustainable practices by Limehouse Produce include:
- Assisting local farmers to achieve GAP certification.
- All food product received is sold, donated, recycled or composted.
- Limehouse Produce is one of the largest customers of Food Waste Disposal, composting more than 70 tons of organic matter annually.
- All shipping materials are recycled, refurbished or repurposed, including pallets, corner boards and packing materials.
- Compact over 24 tons of cardboard annually.
- Installed High Efficiency LED lights throughout the warehouse.
- Integrated cool plate technologies into the fleet to reduce carbon emissions from refrigeration units.
- The in-house truck repair division recycles all used motor oils and tires.
